Do You Even Have Nuts?
An SPH Experience by LowerLetterhead7214.
We’d killed two bottles of wine and were bored out of our minds when Brooke pulled out her phone, put it face down on the coffee table, and said, “Truth or dare. We’re adults, we’re drunk enough, let’s go.”
Tyler grinned immediately. He was the confident one—tall, broad-shouldered, the guy who never hesitated at parties. I was… not that. Skinnier, quieter, the one who laughed at everyone else’s jokes and prayed nobody asked me to tell one of my own.
The first few rounds were standard. Tyler admitted he’d hooked up with a girl from his gym. Vanessa confessed she’d once read her roommate’s diary. I took “truth” three times in a row like a coward and got roasted for it. Then Brooke, smirking over the rim of her wine glass, turned to Vanessa.
“Okay, my turn to dare you,” Brooke said. “I dare you to kick both of these guys in the nuts.”
“Brooke!” Vanessa laughed, nearly spitting her wine. “What the hell?”
“Come on. It’ll be hilarious. Both of them. Right in the balls.”
Tyler just leaned back with this easy smile, like he wasn’t worried at all. My stomach dropped. I laughed too, but it came out wrong—too high, too fast.
Vanessa shook her head. “Absolutely not. I’m not actually kicking anyone. Someone’s getting hurt, someone’s crying, it ruins the whole night.” She paused, then that look crossed her face—the look she got when she was about to say something that would live in the group chat forever. “But… I’ll do something. I’ll put my foot on them. Just press. Through their clothes. That’s fair, right? Nobody gets hurt, and I technically complete the dare.”
“Deal,” Brooke said immediately, already pulling out her phone to record. “This is content.”
“Me first,” Tyler said, standing up and spreading his arms as if he were about to take a free throw.
Vanessa rolled her eyes, stood, and pressed the sole of her socked foot against his jeans, right between his legs. She held it there for a second, then her eyebrows rose.
“Oh,” she said. Then, louder, with a laugh curling through the words: “Okay. Yes. Now I can feel some nuts. Big ones too.”
Brooke lost it. She was doubled over on the couch, phone shaking in her hand. Tyler just shrugged with this smug, quiet pride, as he’d just been handed a trophy. And I sat there, frozen, because I knew—I knew—I was next, and something cold crawled through my chest.
“Your turn,” Vanessa said, turning to me. She was still smiling, but it wasn’t cruel yet. Not yet. That would come in about ten seconds.
I stood up. My legs felt like they belonged to someone else. Tyler and I were friends, but we’d never exactly compared notes, you know? I’d seen enough locker-room glances to know he was packing, and I’d spent my whole life making sure nobody found out I wasn’t. Baggy swim trunks. Quick towel changes—the works.
Vanessa lifted her foot and pressed it against the front of my jeans. She pressed. Then she pressed harder, frowning slightly, tilting her head as if to check if her foot had fallen asleep. She moved it around a little. Pressed again.
And then she said it.
“I can’t feel anything. Do you even have nuts?”
The room went silent for one perfect, horrible second—and then it detonated. Brooke screamed with laughter and actually fell sideways onto the couch cushions. Tyler let out a low “Ohhh, damn,” the sound guys make when someone gets destroyed. And I just stood there, Vanessa’s socked foot still resting against my flat crotch, my face burning so hot I thought my skin might peel off.
“Wait, seriously?” Vanessa said, wiggling her foot against me again, like she was searching for something she’d dropped in the couch. “There’s literally nothing there. Tyler I could feel through his jeans. You, it’s like—” she gestured vaguely at the wall “—like pressing on drywall.”
“Maybe he’s a grower?” Brooke offered from the couch, wiping tears from her eyes.
“Growers still have balls, Brooke.” Vanessa finally lowered her foot. She was looking at me differently now. Not with disgust, exactly. Something worse. Something amused. Like I’d been reclassified in her head from guy friend to… something else—a joke with a pulse.
“Okay, whatever, sit down,” she said, waving her hand at me like I was a dog that had finished a trick. I sat. My ears were ringing. And here’s the part I couldn’t tell anyone, the part that haunted me for weeks after: sitting there, humiliated, both girls I’d fantasized about for three years laughing at my body, I was hard. Painfully, traitorously hard, straining inside my jeans at a size that would’ve made the whole thing so much worse if they’d noticed. Thank God they didn’t. Or maybe they would’ve laughed even harder at how little there was to notice.
The game kind of dissolved after that. Tyler got a text and announced he was heading out to meet the gym girl, and the way both girls’ eyes lit up when they said goodbye to him—hugging him, Brooke squeezing his arm and saying “Take care of those big nuts, champ”—made something in my chest cave in. When he left, it was just the three of us.
And that’s when it started.
“Hey, tiny,” Brooke said, holding up her empty glass without looking at me. “Refill.”
I got her the refill. I want to say I hesitated, that some part of me resisted. I didn’t. I was up and walking to the kitchen before my brain even processed the word “tiny.” That’s the thing about that night—it didn’t humiliate me out of their lives. It humiliated me into their service.
Vanessa started calling me “Flat Stanley.” At first it was just in private, when it was the three of us. Then she said it in front of Tyler once—”Stanley, get the door”—and Tyler looked confused and Brooke lost it all over again, and the nickname stuck so hard people outside our group started using it. Nobody knew what it meant. Everyone could tell it meant something.
The requests came slowly, then all at once. Coffee runs. Vanessa would text me at 9 AM: “Iced latte, oat milk, and don’t be weird about it, simp.” I was never not going to bring her the latte. Brooke had me carrying her gym bag, picking up her prescriptions, editing her essays at 2 AM while she was out with some guy from her rec league. And the whole time, the teasing never stopped. It was constant, low-grade, designed to keep the wound open.
Once, Brooke stretched her arms over her head in front of me, arching her back, and when my eyes flickered—just for half a second, I couldn’t help it—she smirked and said, “Don’t bother, Stanley. Girls like me don’t simp for guys with nothing to simp for.”
“Then why do I keep doing stuff for you?” I heard myself ask. God, I hated my own voice in that moment.
She’d leaned in close, close enough that I could smell her perfume, and whispered, “Because you’re grateful we let you hang out with us at all. Aren’t you?”
I was. That was the sickest part. I was grateful.
Vanessa was worse because she was subtler. She’d sit next to me on the couch, tuck her feet under herself, and rest them on my lap like I was furniture. “Rub them. You’re good with your hands, at least.” At least. Two words that did more damage than a paragraph. Sometimes she’d “accidentally” rest her heel right where it mattered, press down lightly, and give me this look—this knowing, glittering look—and whisper, “Still can’t feel anything,” and I’d have to excuse myself to go breathe in her bathroom with my heart slamming.
The worst night was when they found out I was still a virgin. Brooke guessed it during another round of truth or dare—of course it was truth or dare, it was always truth or dare now—and when I admitted it, the look the two of them exchanged was something I’ll never be able to describe. Not mockery, exactly. Just… confirmation. Like a file had been updated.
“Honestly?” Brooke said, patting my cheek the way you’d pat a kid. “It kind of all makes sense now. The whole package. The little guy with the little guy.”
“Maybe we should find him someone,” Vanessa mused, and for one insane, soaring second I thought—
“Someone patient,” she finished. “Someone with low expectations. Or really, really bad eyesight.”
They laughed. I laughed too. I always laughed. That was my role now—the punchline who fetched the drinks.
Here’s what I couldn’t explain to anyone, what I could barely explain to myself at 2 AM staring at the ceiling: I didn’t want to stop. Every humiliating text, every “Stanley,” every foot in my lap and every joke at my expense, and I came back. I answered every text within a minute. I carried every bag. I wrote every essay. Some nights I replayed Vanessa’s socked foot pressing against me—I can’t feel anything, do you even have nuts?—and it did things to me that no fantasy about either of them had ever managed before that night. They’d found the exact shape of my shame and made it a leash, and the worst truth of all, the one I’ve never said out loud until now, is that I liked wearing it.
Tyler, for his part, was mostly oblivious. He’d clap me on the shoulder and say, “The girls love you, man,” and I’d nod and say, “Yeah, they do.” In a way. The way people love a pet. Or a punchline.
It’s been over a year now. Last week Brooke made me wait outside a restaurant in the rain while she finished a date inside—she said I could hold her umbrella for her when she came out, “since you’re already soaked and useless, might as well be useful.” When she finally came out, she took the umbrella from my hand, didn’t say thank you, and told me I’d left a light on in her apartment and I needed to go turn it off before she got home.
I did it. Of course I did it.
I was 21 when a socked foot against my jeans taught me what I was. I’m still that now. And the two women who taught me? They’ve never let me forget it—not once, not ever—and some small, ruined part of me hopes they never do.
The End.
