How to Buy with Bitcoin (for first-time users)

If you don’t already have Bitcoin, you’ll need to do two things:

  1. Set up a Bitcoin wallet (to store and send Bitcoin)
  2. Buy a small amount of Bitcoin from an exchange

Here’s how.

Step 1 — Install a Bitcoin wallet (5 minutes)

A Bitcoin wallet is like your personal digital bank account. It lets you receive, store, and send Bitcoin.

Download one of these free, easy wallets on your phone:

  • BlueWallet (recommended for beginners)
  • Electrum
  • Exodus

Search for the app in your phone’s App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and install it.

When you open the app for the first time:

  • Choose Create New Wallet
  • The app will show you a recovery phrase (a list of 12 or 24 words)

👉 Write these words down on paper and keep them safe.
If you lose your phone, this phrase is the only way to recover your Bitcoin.

Do not email it to yourself. Do not store it in screenshots.

Step 2 — Create an account on a Bitcoin exchange

Now you need to buy some Bitcoin. And don’t worry, you can buy like $20 worth of bitcoin and transfer that to your wallet, you don’t need to spend a fortune.

Common beginner-friendly exchanges include:

  • CoinSpot
  • Swyftx
  • Binance
  • Independent Reserve

Go to one of these sites and create an account.

You will need to:

  • Enter your email
  • Create a password
  • Verify your identity (ID check — normal for financial services)

This usually takes 10–20 minutes.

Step 4 — Send Bitcoin to your personal wallet

This step is important.

You should move your Bitcoin from the exchange into your own wallet (BlueWallet, Electrum, etc.).

In your wallet app:

  • Tap Receive
  • You’ll see a long Bitcoin address (a mix of letters and numbers)
  • Copy that address.

Now go back to your exchange:

  • Click Withdraw Bitcoin
  • Paste your wallet address
  • Send the Bitcoin

It may take a few minutes to arrive in your wallet.

Step 5 — Now you’re ready to buy online using Bitcoin

Return to this website and click Awaiting Payment From You….

When the payment screen appears:

  • Open your wallet
  • Tap Send
  • Scan the QR code (or paste the address)
  • Send the exact amount shown

After a few minutes, your download link will appear automatically.
